My Yorkshire
England’s County of North Yorkshire, including the Dales (sometimes known as Herriot’s country), has long been admired for its landscapes. With lush, rolling greens and purple in the Summer, and yet still beautiful in the bleakest winter, it contains countless small picturesque villages, market towns, ruined abbeys, and other historical sites. The areas surrounding the City of Ripon and the village of Pateley Bridge have no shortage of these well-loved tourist attractions. Situated on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales and the Vale of York, The City of Ripon, which was founded over 1100 years ago, is a good example of a picturesque and historical market town and includes the smallest cathedral in England. Pateley Bridge is an attractive little village, nestled against the the side and floor of a deep-sided valley and is more in the Dales than the Vale of York. Even though I'm now a proud Canadian, North Yorkshire, will always be my heritage. I would like to take this opportunity to share some of the places I loved to explore whilst growing up, as well as some other spots of interest. The areas of Yorkshire highlighted on this web site are all located within easy driving distance of the City of Ripon. So come and explore with me, and allow me to introduce you to MY Yorkshire.
